Bar Manager

Joe Surrell is the Bar Manager of The Kingstide, the coastal-inspired Daniel Island, SC restaurant from The Indigo Road Hospitality Group. Born in St. Albans, Vermont and raised in Winthrop, Maine, Joe is a true New Englander at heart. Though he always had an interest in hospitality, he felt called to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1998. Following his four year service, Joe relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2004 to attend Coastal Carolina University; it was during this time that he began his first bartending job. Fueled by the energy and fast-paced environment unique to the industry, he went on to study Hospitality and Restaurant Management at the New England Culinary Institute.

In 2011, Joe returned to the South Carolina Lowcountry to complete an internship with Maverick Southern Kitchens in Charleston, where he further polished his culinary skills and solidified his love for the historical city. He continued bartending and composing cocktail sat some of the city’s best restaurants, including Burwells Stone Fire Grill and The Rooftop at the Vendue Inn, before joining the Indigo Road Hospitality Group in 2019, where he served as a bartender at The Macintosh. 

Joining the opening team at The Kingstide, Joe is responsible for leading the restaurant’s bar program, developing cocktail and spirits menus that not only mirror the fresh, seafood-driven cuisine, but also the beautiful, two-story waterfront space. With a large staff of talented beverage professionals, Joe believes efficiency and preparedness are the keys to delivering the best experience for guests. Joe and The Kingstide team look forward to creating lasting relationships with their guests and the surrounding Daniel Island community.
